«La Hongrie est aujourd'hui à l'épicentre européen de la montée de l'antisémitisme et du racisme»

Une délégation conjointe de dirigeants de l’Union juive européenne (EJU), du Parlement juif européen (EJP) et du Centre rabbinique européen (RCE) ont exprimé aux dirigeants politiques hongrois leurs préoccupations au sujet de la montée du parti d'extrême droite Jobbik et de ses discours antisémites et racistes répétés, au cours d’une visite la semaine dernière à Budapest.
Lors de cette visite de deux jours, la délégation a rencontré tour à tour le Président du Parlement hongrois, le Vice-premier ministre, le ministre d'État chargé de la religion, le maire de Budapest, des députés et les chefs de l'opposition.
La délégation était conduite par Joël Rubinfeld, co-président du Parlement juif européen, Tomer Orni, CEO de l’Union juive européenne et Menachem Margolin, directeur du RCE. Elle comprenait également Oleg Rabinovitch, directeur des médias de EJU et trois membres hongrois du Parlement juif européen, le rabbin Shlomo Köves, Daniel Bodnar et Ferenc Olti.
Ils ont exhorté les autorités hongroises à renforcer l'arsenal législatif du pays contre les discours haineux et ont souligné l'importance du rôle de l'éducation à l'école dans la lutte contre l'antisémitisme croissant dans le pays.

European Jewish leaders in Budapest for political meetings with Hungarian government

A delegation of the European Jewish Parliament arrived on a special visit to the Hungarian Parliament in order to meet and discuss the growing anti-Semitism in the country with government leaders, along with the local Jewish community.
Over the two day trip, meetings were held between the delegation, the Jewish community and several key figures in the Hungarian government including the Speaker of the Parliament, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Religious and Civil Affairs and the mayor of Budapest as well as leaders of the Opposition.

Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén received the officials of the European Jewish Parliament, who are on a visit to Hungary.
The Prime Minister's deputy, who is also State Secretary for international church affairs, held a meeting on Thursday with the delegation headed by Co-President of the European Jewish Parliament Joel Rubinfeld, and which also includes one of the Hungarian leaders of the international body, Rabbi Slomó Köves.

Parliament speaker discusses hate-speech laws with European Jewish leaders

Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kover has met European Jewish leaders to discuss government and parliamentary measures to combat hate speech and incitement against communities, as well as related court practices.
Kover met representatives of the European Jewish Parliament, the European Jewish Union, the United Hungarian Jewish Congregation (EMIH), and the Act and Protection Foundation (TEV) for official talks, the EMIH said in a statement on Thursday.
Joel Rubinfeld and Tomer Orni, leaders of the EJP/EJU delegation, complained about the Hungarian parliament’s failure to openly sanction anti-Semitic speeches by radical Jobbik representatives, the statement said. They also said the public prosecutor’s decision to reject related complaints down would send a negative message both to Hungarian society and the international community.

Hungarian officials pressed on hate speech

Two Jewish organizations rebuked the speaker of Hungary’s parliament for not punishing a lawmaker who said Jews needed to be listed as «a national risk.»
In a meeting Jan. 17 in Budapest, Joel Rubinfeld and Tomer Orni, co-chairman of the European Jewish Parliament and CEO of the European Jewish Union respectively, told Speaker Laszlo Kover that inaction «sends a negative message both to Hungarian society and the international community.»
